How much Native American must you be to be considered for a scholarship?
I am Mohegan Indian and Canadian. I’m a few other things mixed in but those are the main ones. I know if you’re a certain percentage of Native American you could be eligible for multiple scholarships. How much Native American?
The percentage of ancestry would depend upon your tribe. To find that out you have to contact your tribal headquarters and ask what their blood-quantum standards are. Typically this is not enough. Then, if you meet the requirement, you have to officially enroll in the tribe or at least be able to prove ancestry. This means that you must be able to prove that one of your ancestors was once enrolled in the tribe.
The majority of Native American scholarships require enrollment or proof of decedency. However there are also many scholarships for people of color in general. You would qualify for most of these even without being able to prove your heritage as most are based on self-identification.
I would recommend that you become more involved in your heritage before you try and reap financial rewards from it.

Hailed as “the first epic” of the… |

3 Ninjas Trilogy [3 Discs] $13.86 “3 Ninjas Trilogy” contains “3 Ninjas Kick Back,” “3 Ninjas Knuckle Up” and “3 Ninjas High Noon At Mega Mountain.” “3 Ninjas Kick Back” – Following their grandfather to Japan, the three underage ninjas find themselves in the middle of martial arts mayhem. Pursued by a bumbling trio of brain-dead thieves and an army of well-trained ninjas, Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum are up to their ears in high-kicking action and rapid-fire comedy. For his first U.S. film, veteran South Korean filmmaker Simon Sheen, aware of the growing trend in family-oriented movies, decided to combine the subject of Asian martial arts with an American children’s comedy. “3 Ninjas Knuckle Up” – It’s a triple threat of fun, action and comedy when Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum’s friendship with a local Native American girl, Jo, pulls them into a modern-day battle between the local Native Americans and a corrupt businessman. Co-stars Judy Tyler and Dean Jones. “It Happened At The World’s Fair”: Fun, music and Elvis all happen in this romp boasting one of the best backdrops of any Elvis Presley movie: the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, with its showpiece Space Needle, monorail and more. The King plays pilot-for-hire Mike, whose hope of starting his own flying business is grounded by the gambling of his co-pilot Danny (Gary Lockwood). The pair hitch to Seattle, where Mike finds romance, Danny finds easy marks and both find problems prior to a Happy Ending. Kurt Russell, star of 1979′s Elvis biopic, plays the child who wallops Mike in the shins. And among the 10 songs are “I’m Falling In Love Tonight”, “Relax” and the gold record “One Broken Heart For Sale”. If he’s selling, we’re buying! “Stay Away, Joe”: A half-Native American rodeo champ returns to the reservation to help his people prove they can be responsible cattlemen and finds that the bull sent to them for breeding has been slaughtered to celebrate his homecoming. Based on a novel by Dan Cushman. “Charro”: Jess Wade is innocently accused of having stolen a cannon from the Mexican revolutionary forces. He tries to find the real culprits, a gang of criminals. Theatrical trailers, Elvis Presley trailer gallery. Subtitles: English, French and Spanish. |

A People’s History of the United States: 1492-Present $23.29 Since its original landmark publication in 1980, “A People’s History of the United States” has been chronicling American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version of history taught in schools — with its emphasis on great men in high places — to focus on the street, the home, and the, workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, “A People’s History” is the only volume to tell America’s story from the point of view of — and in the words of — America’s women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers. As historian Howard Zinn shows, many of our country’s greatest battles — the fights for a fair wage, an eight-hour workday, child-labor laws, health and safety standards, universal suffrage, women’s rights, racial equality — were carried out at the grassroots level, against bloody resistance. Covering Christopher Columbus’s arrival through President Clinton’s first term, “A People’s History of the United States,” which was nominated for the American Book Award in 1981, features insightful analysis of the most important events in our history. Revised, updated, and featuring a new after, word by the author, this special twentieth anniversary edition continues Zinn’s important contribution to a complete and balanced understanding of American history. |

A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism $27.99 In this groundbreaking book, Knight shows how the Qabalah and its basic diagram, the Tree of Life, is a system of relationships among mystical symbols that can be used to gain access to the hidden reaches of the mind. He also demonstrates how the Qabalah is applicable to all mystical traditions and religious beliefs, including Christian mysticism, Greek, Egyptian and Celtic mythologies, and even Native American beliefs. It is indeed symbolic of our universal search for the Divine. Included here are two books in one. The first compares the Western Mystery Tradition with the Eastern system of yoga, analyzes the Tree of Life in full detail, and describes the practical application and theories of Qabalistic symbolism. The second gives the most comprehensive analysis ever published of the twenty-two “Paths of Concealed Glory” that join the Spheres of the Tree of Life taking into account the Hebrew alphabet, astrological signs, and tarot trumps. A large section explores the history of tarot design and the varying systems of correspondence with the Tree of Life. |

Above the River: The Complete Poems $15.12 One of the most admired American poets of his generation, James Wright (1927-80) wrote contemplative, sturdy, and generous poems with an honesty, clarity, and stylistic range matched by very few–then or now. From his Deep Image-inspired lyrics to his Whtimanesque renderings of Neruda, Vallejo, and other Latin American poets, and from his heartfelt reflections on life, love, and loss in his native Ohio to the celebrated prose poems (set frequently in Italy) that marked the end of his important career, “Above the River” gathers the complete work of a modern master. It also features a moving and insightful introduction by Donald Hall, Wright’s longtime friend and colleague. |

African Americans of New Orleans $15 Enslaved Africans and free people of color of Louisiana deserve the title of “Founding Fathers” just as much as the French, the Spanish, and the Americans. In spite of their subjugated role as slaves, African Americans of Louisiana, and subsequently New Orleans, were contributors to the success of the state and the city far beyond their role within the labor force. Imported into the Louisiana Territory by John Law’s Company of the Indies, enslaved Africans, fed on a pound of corn a day, gave birth to American figures of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mahalia Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Homer Plessy, Marie Laveau, Buddy Bolden, Julies Lion, Alice Dunbar-Nelson, the fighting men of the Louisiana Native Guard, Ernest “Dutch” Morial, and many other African Americans contributed to the growth and development of New Orleans. Every African American citizen of New Orleans is intrinsically connected to the city’s cultural and political landscape. |

After Custer: Loss and Transformation in Sioux Country $24.95 Between 1876 and 1877, the U.S. Army battled Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne Indians in a series of vicious conflicts known today as the Great Sioux War. After the defeat of Custer at the Little Big Horn in June 1876, the army responded to its stunning loss by pouring fresh troops and resources into the war effort. In the end, the U.S. Army prevailed, but at a significant cost. In this unique contribution to American western history, Paul L. Hedren examines the war’s effects on the culture, environment, and geography of the northern Great Plains, their Native inhabitants, and the Anglo-American invaders. |

America Before Columbus/ (Widescreen) $17.86 History books traditionally depict the pre-Columbus Americas as a pristine wilderness where small native villages lived in harmony with nature. But scientific evidence tells a very different story: When Columbus stepped ashore in 1492, millions of people were already living there. America wasn’t exactly a “New World,” but a very old one whose inhabitants had built a vast infrastructure of cities, orchards, canals and causeways. But after Columbus set foot in the Americas, an endless wave of explorers, conquistadors and settlers arrived, and with each of their ships came a Noah’s Ark of plants, animals – and disease. In the first 100 years of contact, entire civilizations were wiped out and the landscape was changed forever. National Geographic embarks on an expedition into the mysterious world of ancient American history to shed a different light on the history of the Americas. Bonus program: Columbus landfall. Unflaggingly funny, curious, and, of course, hungry, Richman captures the spectacular melting pot of American cuisine as only a true foodie and insatiable storyteller can. |

American Bards: Walt Whitman and Other Unlikely Candidates for National Poet $49.95 While American literary history has tended to credit Whitman with having invented the persona of the national outsider as the national bard, Edward Whitley recovers three of Whitman’s contemporaries who adopted similar personae: James M. Whitfield, an African American separatist and abolitionist; Eliza R. Snow, a Mormon pioneer and women’s leader; and John Rollin Ridge, a Cherokee journalist and Native-rights advocate. These poets not only provide a counterpoint to the Whitmanian persona of the outsider bard, but they also reframe the criteria by which generations of scholars have characterized Whitman as America’s poet. |

Beginning with an excerpt from Hans Staden’s The True History of His Captivity, which influenced the American captivity narrative, this volume presents accounts by early settlers held captive by Native Americans (Mary Rowlandson, John Smith), narratives by African American slaves (Olaudah Equiano, John Marrant), and others. Collected with the real-life accounts are two captivity poems by Lucy Terry and John Rolling Ridge, and several popular tales and legends on the subject. |
