How do choreographers memorize their choreography?
it seems like an extremely hard thing to do, especially for people like Mia Michaels who has choreographed elaborate performances for people like Celine Dion. choreographers like Dominic Sandoval, Tyce Diorio and Debbie Allen too.

Certain dance forms have special words/syllables that go along with their dance movements. There is a special way to write down those steps. Some people just write down steps in any way that helps them memorize it.
I write down and/or video my choreography to remember it. As long as I have the music memorized I will be able to remember most or all of my steps. Like someone else said, my notes only make sense to me. I’ll forget what they mean a week later if I don’t practice the new choreo right away.
