can I refuse to wear hospital gown?
I am having a TEE (Transesophageal echocardiogram) . That is a camera that they place down your throat. Everything I read says I will need to put a hospital gown on. Im very modest am I able to refuse to wear it? I will have to have a EKG too but when I was at the ER 3 months ago they nurse did it with me clothed.
You can explain the situation of how you feel before being asked to get changed.
For the test you will most likely be able to keep all the lower half of your clothes on.
You will not be naked under the gown even if you have to go in knickers and gown.
Having an ECG is a lot different than a sedative procedure.
You are asked to wear a gown for easy access for the electrods on your chest during sedation and God forbid if they need to defib you, then you won’t end up with massive burns from your bra.
Even if you wear the gown, EVERY BODY in Theatre has to keep your modesty by offering blankets and covering you at any time you may expose yourself.
Some Doctor’s have the rule that if you refuse the gown. They refuse the procedure because of risks of you being fully clothed.
