how do adjust the size of a sewing pattern for clothes?
I accidentally got a bigger size than needed how can I make it smaller, it’s for a dress any ideas or suggestions?
Unless it’s a very simple garment, I’d take the pattern back for a different size. But check first… your pattern size is probably at least two sizes larger than the size clothes you buy off the rack.
What you’re going to have to do is called “grading”, and it gets a bit tricky at times.

The real problem is that you don’t know the grading rules used by that particular pattern company.

You can somewhat guesstimate on a multisize pattern — most patterns have even grades between sizes, so if you need to go down two sizes, look at the difference between two other sizes, and draw in some lines. But you’ll probably have to do some fine tuning at the fitting stage.
